Sizing a compression knee sleeve when you sit between sizes

The dial on this sleeve tunes compression, but it cannot fix a shell that is the wrong size. Measure the joint first, then choose the nearest size and let the dial do the fine tuning.

Measure the knee, not the jeans

Wrap a soft tape around the centre of the kneecap with the leg straight. Keep the tape snug but not pulled tight - the number you want is the circumference of the joint, not of the thigh above it.

Write the measurement down and compare it with the size range on the product page. If you land exactly on a boundary, size up: the dial can add compression, but it cannot create room that is not there.

What a wrong fit feels like

Too small shows up as pinching behind the knee, a numb patch below the sleeve, or a mark that is still there after you take it off. Stop wearing it and move up a size.

Too large slides down the calf within a few steps, especially on a descent. Washing the sleeve does not shrink it back, so exchange for a smaller size instead.

Wearing it on the hill

Start with the dial backed off and tighten it a turn at a time until the joint feels supported rather than squeezed. Take the sleeve off once you are back on flat ground, and hand wash it in cool water before the next walk.
